Ohana's Breakfast

We really enjoyed breakfast at Ohana with Lilo and the gang. It was a great place to have breakfast on the way to the Magic Kingdom. The food and character interaction was very good. Lilo leads a parade, similar to the Crystal Palace with the children, only at Ohana they provide instruments and it is a bit more active!

Ohana restaurant in Disney's Polynesian Resort offers a dinner menu with selections influenced by Polynesian cuisine and a Character Dining breakfast. Both meals are served family style, which makes sense since in the Hawaiian culture 'ohana means family.

The Ohana servers contribute to the festive atmosphere, as they dash between tikis and tropical greenery to bring plates of Polynesian specialties to your table. Choose from skewers roasted over an expansive 18-foot oak fire pit!

Side dishes include stir-fried vegetables, fried dumplings, lo mein noodles and a salad starter. The full bar in 'Ohana offers select wines and tropical alcoholic drinks.

When the doors open for dinner, be welcomed to 'Ohana with the bellow of conch shells. Experience storytellers and coconut races, where children sweep coconuts with brooms across the hardwood floor down the center of the restaurant. The family fun continues as everyone is encouraged to play with hula hoops and dance to island music.

'Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast with Lilo & Stitch
Experience: Character Dining
Service: Family-style
Price Level: $$ ($15 to $35.99)

Start the day with Experiment 626, or as he's known to his friends, Stitch! Lilo's here, too, to extend her Polynesian hospitality to you and your family. Feel like you're a part of Lilo & Stitch's intergalactic 'ohana when you join them for an American breakfast influenced by the exotic tastes of Polynesia. Menu selections include scrambled eggs, Island-style fried potatoes, Hawaiian pork sausages, smoked bacon and a variety of fresh fruits and breads. To complete the theme of "family," dishes are served family style.

Disney Characters who appear are:

Stitch
Lilo
(Other Characters may also be present.)

Toy Story 2 released in 1999

Toy Story 2 is a 1999 American computer animated film, the third Disney·Pixar feature film, and the sequel to Toy Story, which features the adventures of a group of toys that come to life when humans are not around to see them. Toy Story 2 was produced by Pixar Animation Studios, directed by John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich and Ash Brannon, and released by Walt Disney Pictures and Buena Vista Distribution in the United States on November 24, 1999, in some parts of Australia on December 2, 1999 and the United Kingdom on 11 February 2000. Toy Story 2 was re-released in a double feature with Toy Story in Disney Digital 3-D on October 2, 2009.

The film keeps most of the original characters and voices from the first film, including Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Jim Varney, Wallace Shawn, Annie Potts, John Ratzenberger, Joe Ranft, John Morris, and Laurie Metcalf. They are joined by new characters voiced by Jodi Benson, Joan Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Estelle Harris, and Wayne Knight.

Woody prepares to go to cowboy camp with Andy but his arm is ripped, forcing him to stay on the shelf. There Woody finds a broken squeeze toy penguin toy named Wheezy, who is to be sold at a yard sale. With help from Andy's dog, Buster, Woody sneaks out and saves Wheezy, but falls off before he can make it inside the house. He is first found by a girl but is then found by an enthusiastic toy collector. The Toy collector offers Andy's mother several deals to purchase Woody, but citing that Woody was not supposed to be in the yard sale in the first place, and that Woody is in fact a family heirloom, she declines his offers and locks Woody in a Blue crate. The Toy collector however creates a distraction and steals Woody out of the crate and drives off with him. Buzz Lightyear and the other toys recognize the thief as Al McWhiggin, the owner of Al's Toy Barn, and set out to rescue him.

In Al's apartment, Woody discovers he is a valuable collectable based on an old, popular TV show called Woody's Roundup, and is set to be sold to a toy museum in Tokyo, Japan. The other toys from the franchise—Jessie the yodeling cowgirl, Woody's horse Bullseye, and Stinky Pete the Prospector, who is in mint condition inside his unopened box—are excited about the trip, but Woody intends to return home because he is still Andy's toy. They needed Woody to stay because if he wasn't with them, they would go back into storage. That night, Al accidentally rips off Woody's broken arm and Woody attempts to recover his arm and return to Andy. However, his attempt gets sabotaged when the TV turns on, waking Al up and ruining his chances of returning home. Woody suspects Jessie because the TV remote was near her and he plans to return to Andy once his arm is repaired. However, he changes his mind once he learns that Jessie was outgrown by her old owner, Emily, and realizes Andy will outgrow him at some point.

Buzz and the other toys—Rex, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, and Hamm—reach the Al's Toy Barn store across from Al's apartment. However Buzz gets captured by a newer Buzz Lightyear action figure who is more deluded than the old Buzz was before. The new Buzz is mistaken by the other toys as Andy's Buzz and joins them to Al's apartment. The real Buzz escapes and chases them, accidentally releasing an action figure of his arch enemy Emperor Zurg, who, just like the new Buzz, doesn't realize he is a toy.

Buzz rejoins the others as soon as they find Woody, but Woody refuses to return to Andy. However, he changes his mind when he watches a boy with him on TV making him realize how much he missed Andy, and Buzz reminds him that toys are meant to be played with. Woody convinces Jessie and Bullseye to come with him as another way to stop them going back into storage, but Stinky Pete, out of his box, locks up the air vent the toys used to get to Al's apartment with his pickaxe, separating them from Andy's toys. Stinky Pete then reveals that he sabotaged Woody's attempt to regain his broken arm to prevent him returning to Andy and that he wants to go to Japan because he was forced to spend his life in a shop watching the other toys being sold. After they are taken by Al, the two Buzzes and the rest of Andy's toys encounter Zurg in an elevator shaft (Who the new Buzz starts to fight) while chasing Al, but the new Buzz remains behind to play with Zurg once he discovers that Zurg is his father.

Buzz and the others follow Al to the airport and enter the baggage claim area to save Woody. Stinky Pete tries to stop them, ripping Woody's arm again, but he is defeated and stuffed in the bag of a girl who draws on the faces of her toys; this gives him a chance to see what it is like to be played with (what Woody calls "the true meaning of 'playtime'"). Jessie ends up being boarded on the airplane to Japan, but Woody, Buzz and Bullseye save her just before the plane lifts off and the toys return home to await Andy's arrival, Woody uses his pull string as a lasso. Later, Andy takes Jessie and Bullseye in as his new toys and fixes Woody's arm. The toys also learn that Al's business and mood have sharply declined because his attempt to sell the Roundup gang to Japan was a failure. As the new toys become accustomed to having a new owner, Woody tells Buzz that he is not worried about Andy outgrowing him, because when he does, they will have each other for infinity and beyond. The story ends with the end of a song sung by Wheezy a la Robert Goulet.

Happy Birthday Mickey!

Steamboat Willie was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon released, and the first cartoon with synchronized sound. As a mischievous deckhand on a riverboat, Mickey, to Minnie's delight, plays "Turkey in the Straw" utilizing an animal menagerie as his instruments. However, the tyrannical Captain Pete is not amused, and Mickey ends up peeling potatoes in the galley.

After unsuccessfully trying to make a deal to record through RCA or Western Electric, Walt contracted with the bootleg Powers Cinephone process and, after a disastrous initial recording session, finally recorded the soundtrack with a 15-piece band and his own squeaks for Mickey.

Directed by Walt Disney. Released at the Colony Theater in New York on November 18, 1928, the date used for the birth of Mickey Mouse.

Jungle Cruise

Jungle Cruise takes Guests on a grand tour of the world's most exotic rivers in Asia, Africa and South America, in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom theme park.

Set sail on a 1930s tramp-steamer tour in the untamed waters of the Mekong, the Amazon and the rivers of Africa. Will your vessel be Sankuru Sadie or Senegal Sal, and will she survive the 9-minute Jungle Cruise intact?

Mother Nature is at her wildest as you pass Audio-Animatronics animals including the Bengal tiger, king cobras, elephants, lions and hyenas in their native habitats. Whether they're feasting on their prey, scaring trespassing humans or splashing water, the animals will keep you on your toes.

As your skipper leads you ever deeper into the jungles past hare-brained explorers and ancient ruins, be prepared for some surprises along the way. Are there really hippopotamus and headhunters lying in wait? Your skipper's sure to regale you with humorous tales of danger.

Even while in line for your expedition, you'll see detailed Colonial artifacts and silly communications that make this tongue-in-cheek cruise a jungle-grade scream.

    Fun Fact:
The plane in the jungle is actually only half a plane. The other half is in the Casablanca scene in the Great Movie Ride at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park.

The Jungle Cruise is an attraction at the following Disney theme parks: Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland and Hong Kong Disneyland (under the name Jungle River Cruise). It is located in Adventureland. Disneyland Paris is the only Magic Kingdom-style Disney theme park that does not have the Jungle Cruise in its attraction roster, though an indoor jeep ride called Jungle Expedition was originally planned instead.

The attraction simulates a riverboat cruise down several major rivers of Asia, Africa and South America. Park guests board replica tramp steamers and are taken on a voyage past many different animatronic jungle animals. The tour is led by a live Disney cast member delivering a humorous scripted narration.

Sources of inspiration for the attraction include a 1955 True-Life Adventure about a pride of lions, and the movie “The African Queen”. Imagineer Harper Goff referenced the African Queen frequently in his ideas; even his designs of the ride vehicles were modeled after the steamer used in the film.[1] The project was placed on the schedule to open with the July 17, 1955 debut of Disneyland.

When plans began to develop, Bill Evans, the Imagineer responsible for landscaping Disneyland (DL) and most of Walt Disney World (WDW), faced the daunting task of foresting an entire jungle on a limited budget. Aside from importing many actual tropical plants, he made wide use of "character plants" which while not necessarily exotic could give the appearance of exoticism in context. In a particularly well-known trick, he uprooted local orange trees and "replanted" them upside-down, growing vines on the exposed roots. The clean water was dyed brown to prevent visitors from seeing the bottom of the “river”, which varies between three and eight feet deep.

Although Goff and Evans can be credited with the creation and initial design of the ride, Marc Davis (recognized for his work on venerable attractions such as the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean) added his own style to the ride in later versions and DL-version updates. The "Indian Elephant Bathing Pool" and "Rhinoceros Chasing Explorers up a Pole" were among his contributions.

The queue and station are themed as the headquarters and boathouse of a River Expedition Company, located in a (presumably British) Colony of the 1930s. The queuing area is cluttered with appropriate props, such as pinned insects under glass, an old radio on top of the bookshelf, and a chessboard with miniature animals and decorated shotgun shells replacing the pieces. The extended queue winds upstairs, underneath an animatronic hornbill, and then downstairs again. Big band music from the 1930s plays overhead, punctuated by jungle-related news bulletins by the legendary fictional character Albert Awol, helping to reinforce the setting and threading together the show scenes and boat.

Once aboard the boats, the guests are introduced to their skipper and they head into the jungle (allegedly never to return). The first rivers simulated are the Irrawaddy and Mekong rivers, representing tropical South-east Asia. The boats sail through a dense rainforest, and ancient Cambodian temple ruins where passengers see a Bengal Tiger, giant spiders, king cobras and crocodiles. Passing a shrine to the elephant-headed Hindu deity Ganesha, the boats enter the Sacred Indian Elephant Bathing Pool where dozens of Indian elephants frolic in the water and squirt water at the passing vessels.

The theme transitions to the rivers of Africa, and riders see a family of baboons, and safari camp that has been overrun by gorillas. The boats careen past the dramatic waterfall Schweitzer Falls, between two African Elephants, and large termite mounds. A tableau of the African Veldt follows, showing zebras, wildebeest, and giraffes watch a pride of lions feasting on a zebra beneath a rocky outcropping. Beyond the lion's den, an angry rhinoceros has chased a safari party up a tree. Antelope and hyenas watch from nearby. The skipper then pilots the boat into a large pool, disturbing a pod of hippos that signal their intent to attack the boat. Armed with a gun (filled with blanks), the skipper fires into the air to frighten them away.

Drums and chanting are heard as the boats come to headhunter country. The vehicles pass a native village before sailing into an ambush by natives wielding spears, the sound effects for which are usually provided by the skipper.

The boats pass behind Schweitzer Falls (known as "the Backside of Water") to enter the Amazon River. Skeletal animal remains and warning signs featuring pictures of dagger-toothed fish forewarn the next show scene, where the boats encounter a swarm of leaping piranha. The guests then pass a pool of water buffalo, and meet shrunken head dealer Trader Sam before returning to the dock.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction reopens, queue remains closed
Nov 15, 2010

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh has reopened on schedule after it's brief closure to work on parts of the queue. The ride itself is open, but the new queue remains walled off and the temporary queue remains in use for now. The new queue will include some things from Pooh's Playful Spot.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is a ride that is perfect for little ones in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom theme park.

Climb aboard Pooh's Hunny Pot for a slow-moving ride right into the pages of an A. A. Milne storybook. On a very blustery day in the Hundred-Acre Wood, join Winnie the Pooh and all his friends including Tigger, Eeyore, Piglet, Owl, Rabbit, Gopher, Kanga and Roo. Bounce along with Tigger, float through a floody place with Piglet and drift through the mysterious dream world of Heffalumps and Woozles.

Little kids will delight in this popular attraction, which seats 4 Guests per ride vehicle and features creative lighting effects and playful music to bring Pooh's exciting adventures to life.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh contains some elements such as a storm that could be a little scary for very small children, but overall it's a willy nilly silly good time!

Fantasia

November 13, 2010 marks the 70th Anniversary of Fantasia. Fantasia is a 1940 American animated film produced by Walt Disney with brief live-action introductions between the animated segments. The third feature-length animated film produced by Walt Disney Productions, Fantasia features eight animated segments set to classical music selections. The animated segments feature no dialogue or sound effects; the only dialogue in the film is featured in live-action introductions to each piece by host Deems Taylor, an American composer and music critic, before each segment.

The music was recorded under the direction of Leopold Stokowski, who is featured in Taylor's live-action introductions , and seven of the eight pieces were performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra. Animated artwork of varying degrees of abstraction or literalism was used to illustrate or accompany the concert in various ways. Fantasia was notable for featuring what were then considered avant-garde qualities, and for being the first commercial film released in multi-channel sound using a process called "Fantasound". The film is often considered Disney's magnum opus.

Fantasia was originally released by Walt Disney Productions itself rather than its then-distributor, RKO Radio Pictures, and exhibited as a two-hour and twenty minute roadshow film (including an intermission) with reserved-seat engagements. The film opened to mixed critical reaction and failed to generate a large commercial audience, which left Disney in financial straits.
Fantasia was eventually picked up by RKO for release in 1941 and edited drastically to a running time of 81 minutes in 1942. Five subsequent re-releases of Fantasia between 1946 and 1977 restored various amounts of the deleted footage, with the most common version being the 1946 re-release edit, which ran nine minutes shorter than the original 124 minute roadshow version. A 1982 reissue featured a newly recorded digital soundtrack conducted by composer Irwin Kostal, but was taken out of circulation in 1990 after a restored version of the original Stokowski-conducted soundtrack was prepared. The original version of Fantasia was never released again after 1941, and although some of the original audio elements no longer exist, a 2000 DVD release version attempted to restore as much of the original version of the film as possible.

Despite its initial commercial failure, Fantasia went on to become one of the most popular films of all-time[3] and is today considered a classic film.

Some of the works played in the film are program music; that is, instrumental music that depicts or suggests stories in sound. However, the Disney program is generally not the same as the original. This criticism was addressed in the film itself. The host and narrator of the film, Deems Taylor, introduces each piece in the program and gives background on the original intent of the composer. There is no intent to deceive anyone into thinking that the Disney visual accompaniment was the "original intent" of the composer.

Some of the musical works selected were shortened from their full length for the sake of the film's running time. Of the eight pieces, four are presented virtually complete: Toccata and Fugue, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the Dance of the Hours (which is actually expanded), and the Ave Maria. The Nutcracker Suite is shorn of its Miniature Overture and March, the twenty-five minute Rite of Spring (the longest segment in the film) is ten minutes shorter than the original thirty-five minute work, and the Pastoral Symphony segment is performed in a twenty-minute version rather than Beethoven's complete forty-minute original. There are also small internal omissions in Night on Bald Mountain.

The New Disney Store

This past Saturday we loaded up our RV with a couple other families and went to North Park Center in Dallas to check out the new Disney Store.

It was grand opening weekend and as expected there were crowds, but Disney is incredible at crowd control! Although there were lines for the Characters and to enter the store, they moved quickly and were very well managed.

We were greated by Mickey Mouse on a stage with balloons. We decided to wait to see him until after we visited the store so we got in line for the store. After a very short wait we were escorted in to the store.

The first stop was the castle with a magic mirror. The children were able to pick a wand and when they waved it at the mirror the princess who belonged to the wand waved would appear along with a brief video in the mirror about the princess.

After seeing their favorite princess my kids then went into Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse - it was a small play area for them to crawl into - not sure what all was inside - it was designed for young children and looked like fun.

There was a board up on the wall with activities that were going on all week for the children - I remember one activity was Color Time With Woody - but there were things to do at different times all week long. It really made me want to live closer!

The store was divided up into character themes. All Cinderella items together, Toy Story items together, etc.

There was an area there like in Downtown Disney where you could design and build your own remote control car.

There was a good sized area with sitting and a movie for the kids to enjoy while the parents shop.

After we left the store we waited to get the kids picture with Minnie Mouse. (Mickey was now on break - they took turns.) The line again moved quickly and it was great to see Minnie!

We went by the Radio Disney table and got free Disney Store magnets with Mickey,Donald, Minnie and Goofy - very cute! I also got a Disney Store Trading Pin by bringing in a card and using my Disney Rewards Card. It was very cute with Tinkerbell.

I had not been to North Park Center since before I had children and was amazed at all the wonderful shops for kids that were together in this area. There was a big Lego store, Build-a-Bear, and countless other great kid shops all together!

It was a fun day trip and the whole family enjoyed getting a taste of Disney!

Disney Dream’s Spectacles Take Cruise Ship Family Entertainment to New Heights

CELEBRATION, Fla. Talk about elevating cruise ship entertainment to new heights: A little mermaid soars over the stage in a stunning aerial ballet … Pirates rappel from atop the ship’s funnel during a swashbuckling adventure … The evening sky lights up with a dazzling spectacle of sound and color.

When the Disney Dream sets sail in January 2011, Disney Cruise Line is more than just raising the bar with entertainment designed to charm and bedazzle the entire family. Guests will delight to some of the most elaborate original musicals presented at sea, over-the-top deck parties and, bursting above it all, the largest fireworks spectacular aboard a cruise ship.

It’s Show Time!
Every night is show time at Walt Disney Theatre, an elegant, 1,340-seat entertainment palace that is at once classic and ultra-modern. Spanning three decks with orchestra and balcony seating, the theater is resplendent with art deco styling recalling luxurious show places of a bygone time. At the same time, it is equipped with theatrical technology that makes it one of the most advanced venues on land or sea, allowing producers to bring original productions and Disney stories to life in a whole new way.

The lineup of musicals presented at Walt Disney Theatre includes:

“Disney’s Believe”
Headlining the musical repertoire is “Disney’s Believe,” an original stage spectacular premiering aboard the Disney Dream. Combining a heartfelt story with a captivating musical score, the lavish production tells the story of a workaholic father who, through the power of Disney magic, reconnects with his daughter and learns a valuable lesson about what is important in life.

“Disney’s Believe” takes guests to the garden of Dr. Cornelius Greenaway, a brilliant botanist obsessed with cultivating his precious plants. Dr. Greenaway is so preoccupied with his garden that he overlooks the birthday of his daughter, Sophia. Saddened, Sophia makes a special birthday wish and the impossible happens: Genie from Disney’s “Aladdin” appears to make her wish come true.

Joined by a host of other characters, Genie takes Dr. Greenaway on an enchanting journey into the world of Disney stories. Through spirited production numbers, Dr. Greenaway learns that magic is real and is embodied in his beloved daughter.

More than 20 of Disney’s most beloved characters take the stage during “Disney’s Believe,” including Cinderella, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Belle (“Beauty and The Beast”), Rafiki (“The Lion King”) and Princess Tiana (“The Princess and The Frog”).

‘The Golden Mickeys’: A Timeless Tribute
“The Golden Mickeys,” an award-style show celebrating the musical heritage of Disney animated films, is a Disney Cruise Line guest favorite. On the Disney Dream, the show gets an extra sprinkle of glitz and glamour with new musical numbers, enhanced technology and dazzling special effects.

New production numbers include an aerial ballet featuring Ariel from “The Little Mermaid,” an elegant ballroom waltz inspired by “Beauty and the Beast” featuring the Beast’s transformation into a prince, and a romantic duet performed by Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, lead characters of Disney’s newest animated feature, “Tangled.”

‘Villains Tonight!’
The malevolent world of the Disney villains takes a comical spin in “Villains Tonight!,” the first full-scale musical production dedicated to the Disney villains. The show is a fun-filled musical comedy starring Hades (“Hercules”), who embarks on a quest filled with wacky antics and amusing musical numbers to bring evil back into the Underworld.

“Villains Tonight!” features a “Who’s Who” of Disney “baddies,” including Jafar (“Aladdin”), Ursula (“The Little Mermaid”), the Evil Queen (“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”), Captain Hook (“Peter Pan”) and Scar (“The Lion King”).

Party on Deck
In addition to nightly stage productions, Disney Cruise Line brings the upper decks of the Disney Dream to life with incredible live entertainment.

The fun begins with “Sailing Away,” a “welcome aboard” show starring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and the Disney gang. The show is a celebration of the fun aboard a Disney cruise, building to the exciting sounding of the ship’s horn.

On a special night each cruise, the entire Disney Dream transforms into a pirate ship with two new events brimming with buccaneer fun and a new fireworks spectacular.

The evening kicks off on the Donald Pool stage with “Mickey’s Pirates IN the Caribbean,” a family-friendly interactive show featuring the famous Disney characters. Guests become members of Mickey’s Pirate Crew as they participate on a series of pirate-themed musical numbers.

Later in the evening, a special appearance by Captain Jack Sparrow, from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, kicks off “Club Pirate,” a high-tech, open-air dance party on the upper decks of the ship. Guests unleash their inner pirate and dance their boots off during this family-friendly and electrifying bash featuring stunning visuals and special effects.

Fireworks at Sea
The only cruise line to feature fireworks at sea, Disney Cruise Line ups the entertainment ante and lights up the sky with the largest fireworks extravaganza presented aboard a cruise ship.

As an addition to the “Pirates IN the Caribbean” celebration, the skies above the Disney Dream explode with brilliant colors during “Buccaneer Blast!” With more “bang” than ever before, the pyrotechnic spectacular is choreographed to a dramatic score featuring songs from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, Peter Pan and the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney theme parks.

The Hall of Presidents

The Hall of Presidents is an attraction located in Liberty Square at the Magic Kingdom in the Walt Disney World Resort. The attraction is a multi-media presentation and stage show featuring Audio-Animatronic figures of all 43 U.S. Presidents. It opened on October 1, 1971, along with the rest of the Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World.

One Nation Under God

Walt Disney had originally wanted an attraction similar to the "Hall of Presidents" called One Nation Under God at Disneyland Park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California USA. After Disneyland had become a huge success, Walt Disney proposed an extension of Main Street, U.S.A. called Liberty Street at Edison Square. Walt originally wanted wax figures of all the U.S. Presidents, and later decided to try to make them animated figures. But the technology that Walt Disney wanted for this attraction did not exist or fully meet his desire. Walt Disney decided to collaborate with his fellow Imagineers of WED Enterprises to try to make the first Audio-Animatronic figure in a human form. It would be of Walt Disney's hero: Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States.

Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
Walt Disney and his Imagineers created an Audio-Animatronic figure of Abraham Lincoln, more advanced than the ones produced for the Illinois Pavilion at the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair. The show consisted of a pre-show film on a screen with a depiction of paintings done to represent Illinois. Guests then entered the main theater where the theater curtains eventually were removed to reveal the figure of Abraham Lincoln sitting in a chair. He rose out of the chair, stood up, and gave a 5-7 minute oratory consisting of a collection of his famous speeches.

The show concluded with more theater curtains revealing the Rotunda of the United States Capitol Building. While the original version of the show that played in New York during its showing at the Fair was eventually dismantled and demolished, a similar version was created even while the Fair was going on in 1965. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln was closed down for Disney's 50th anniversary in 2005, but was re-opened in 2009.

Liberty Square
After Walt Disney's death on December 15, 1966, plans were moving ahead for the (still under construction) Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. Since there was going to be another Disneyland-style theme park, this time officially known as the Magic Kingdom, Imagineers felt that one of the changes that would differ between Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom should be in one of the themed lands. The Imagineers decided that since Florida was close to the real New Orleans in Louisiana, having a New Orleans Square in the Magic Kingdom was a bit superfluous.[citation needed] The old designs and concepts for Disney's Liberty Street at Edison Square were reviewed and revised, and what became of it was the Magic Kingdom's Liberty Square, that served as the alternative to New Orleans Square. Liberty Square also serves as the alternative location for the Magic Kingdom's version of the Haunted Mansion, which is located at New Orleans Square in Disneyland. The Imagineers also thought that, as a follow-up to "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln", they could finally create Walt Disney's concept of "One Nation Under God", and thus the creating the Hall of Presidents.

The attraction
The original show began with a film presentation of the history of the United States of America. It shows that the American way was forged through conflict and many long years of struggle. The main idea of the film is that the United States is not free from improvements. It is certain changes that prove necessary over the years. The film also celebrates the liberties of the American people, the United States Constitution, and the progress of America in its early years. With the help of paintings from the era, the Philadelphia Convention is reenacted.

George Washington (voiced by Disney veteran Paul Frees) and Benjamin Franklin are heard making speeches to the Convention. They assured all that this government was going to be different. After the formation of the Constitution, the first test of the new republic was the Whiskey Rebellion, which proved that the government would use force to "ensure domestic tranquility. "Years later, President Andrew Jackson was the first to deal with secession by the Southern states. Luckily, the talk was quelled and Jackson escaped the threat.

The film then segues to the time of Abraham Lincoln, when secession was a real threat. These paintings and vocal performances are similar, if not identical, to the same segment in the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" presentation. The American Civil War portion of the presentation is based on the "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln" presentation, including a nearly identical script, although, to fit the much bigger screen of the theater, rather than the much smaller one at Disneyland, new paintings were required to fill the screen. The Constitution survived the conflict, making America a truly unified nation.

A huge era of progress occurred after the war. All the while, the Constitution remained the tent pole of the country. The film then turns toward the future, saying that the leaders of tomorrow have to be committed to the Constitution and its principles, if the country is to survive. A Saturn V rocket takes off, and the screens then lift up, and the U.S. Presidents take center stage. After the curtain lifts, all (then) 36 presidents are called, in chronological order. (At the time the attraction opened in 1971, the roll call ended with Richard M. Nixon. Over time, each newly elected President would have an Audio-Animatronic version of himself added to the show in their likeness.)

Each one responds to their name with a nod, wave, or other sign of acknowledgment. During the presentation, the Presidents fidget, talk to each other, and look around; all the while making the illusion seem quite real. Abraham Lincoln then stands and takes center stage. His speech is remarkably similar to the speech he gave in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln". After his speech, the show concludes with a rendition of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic," (the same rendition used in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln."

The original show remained virtually unchanged from 1971 until 1993. The only major feature that changed before 1993 was the original adaptation of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" that served as part of the finale of the show. It was the same adaptation used in "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln". The adaptation was done in a lower key, and instead changed for a revised adaptation in a higher key. Otherwise, additional Audio-Animatronics were added whenever a new U.S. President entered into office.

The roll-call, though narrated by the same man who had done the original in 1971, Lawrence Dobkin, continued to be redone and expanded with the additions of Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush to the show as each of the four men were elected as President. The show was then completely renovated in 1993, after Bill Clinton was elected into office, and the majority of those changes remain in some way, shape, or form to this day. The change to the show is credited to Eric Foner, a history professor at Columbia University.

He was able to persuade various Disney executives, most notably then CEO of the Disney Company, Michael Eisner that a new adaptation of the show was needed. Foner is responsible for completely rewriting and changing the script of the show in order to focus more on slavery and other ethical and civil related issues in the United States of America. He is also responsible for rewriting Lincoln's speech, which was originally nearly identical to that which Lincoln gave in the original version of "Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln." An Audio-Animatronic Bill Clinton was also added to the roll-call in 1993.

While the format of the show remained in the sense of the photos, films, and other features used in the film and elsewhere in the presentation, the speed at which the films played, and what was shown on them was redone to fit the changed script. A new music score was also introduced. The changed script, possibly historically inaccurate, created very different feelings for the same material being shown before guests dating back to 1971. Despite this, it covers generally the same events shown in the original film (omitting the Whiskey Rebellion).

Also, no longer would prominent members of the Disney Company narrate parts of the film. Lawrence Dobkin no longer narrated the film or did the roll call of the U.S. Presidents. Paul Frees and Royal Dano also no longer narrated the character's voices. Instead, Maya Angelou narrated the revised script and gave the roll-call of the U.S. Presidents. New amateur actors gave the voices of the characters in the film. Another feature that was added in 1993 was a speech given by the current U.S. President. Foner is responsible for writing the speech which President Clinton later read and taped at the White House.

The 2001–08 version of the show, featuring a speech by George W. Bush. Followed by the current U.S. President's speech, Abraham Lincoln would give his completely revised speech, also done by Foner. Lincoln also now wore eyeglasses, and held a piece of paper to glance to and from his speech. Some objected to this, saying that it dumbed down the depiction of Lincoln as a prominent and iconic figure. For the 2001 update to the show, adding President George W. Bush and his speech, actor J.D. Hall replaced Angelou as the narrator, but he read from the same script as the 1993 version. The Audio-Animatronic figure created for President Bill Clinton in 1993 was recycled and used for President George W. Bush; Clinton is now a lesser Audio-Animatronic figure.

According to Pam Fisher, the senior show writer for Walt Disney Imagineering, "it is quite an experience to arrive in the White House and actually be present when the president records his speech for the Hall of Presidents."[1] When Eric Jacobson of Walt Disney Imagineering presented President Obama a panoramic picture of the current Hall of Presidents, Obama inquired, "So are these like wax figures or holograms?". All legacy voices and features used in the show in 1993 remained unchanged in the current show. Before the 2009 updates to the show, including the addition of President Barack Obama, the Hall of Presidents was closed between October 31, 2008, and July 1, 2009, to undergo an extensive renovation to upgrade its audio and visual effects and systems, as well as add an Audio-Animatronic Barack Obama to the roll-call.

Morgan Freeman became the new narrator for the 2009 revised show, and George Washington was added as a third speaking president. When Obama recorded his main speech for the updated show on March 4, 2009, in the White House Map Room, he also recorded himself once again reciting the Oath of office of the President of the United States. In addition, the clip of the Saturn V launch was replaced with footage showing the first launch of the Space Shuttle Columbia. This footage had been recycled from the original version of Universe of Energy at Epcot.

An unexpected twist on one of the original characters was the debut of Buzz Lightyear's alter ego, "Spanish Buzz." Jessie becomes quite enamored with this new and improved version, and melts when he proves he's got the dance moves to match his newfound penchant for romance. But Buzz and Jessie's incredibly authentic paso doble dance routine was no artistic accident. "Dancing with the Stars" pros Tony Dovolani and Cheryl Burke choreographed the actual steps for the animators to use as reference. Catch them in action at Pixar Animation Studios as they create one of the film's most memorable scenes!

Every emotion in animation is conveyed solely through the voice – and many of the actors who made the original "Toy Story" characters so memorable returned for take three. Tom Hanks reprised his role of Woody while Tim Allen voiced Buzz once again, along with Joan Cusack (Jessie), John Ratzenberger (Hamm), Don Rickles (Mr. Potato Head), Estelle Harris (Mrs. Potato Head), Jodi Benson (Barbie), Wallace Shawn (Rex), Laurie Metcalf (Andy's mom), and John Morris (Andy). Titled "The Gang's All Here," one of the bonus features includes poignant moments with the returning stars as well as an introduction to the newest members of the cast.

Not to be missed, the "Chatter Phone Tipline" clips feature the classic Fisher-Price toy revealing insider information on the voice actors, director, characters, and more. In addition, you'll be privy to roundtable discussions with director Lee Unkrich, producer Darla K. Anderson, and the story artists – plus the life of a shot, animation tests, script pages, crew commentary, a peek inside Pixar Animation Studios, a "Toy Story" trivia challenge, and other interesting video snippets.

Of course, this roundup wouldn't be complete without tips on some of the neat surprises, commonly known as "Easter Eggs," that might have been missed initially. Without completely spilling the beans, we recommend that you keep your finger poised on the "Pause" button to see if you can recognize a grown-up Sid, a Pizza Planet reference (BTW, it's NOT the truck this time), Pixar's original street address, and CalArts famed room "A113." You'll also find nods to "Finding Nemo," "Cars," "WALL·E," "Up," and a glimpse of Totoro himself.

When "Toy Story 3" debuts on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack and DVD this November 2, take a closer look around Woody's world – Sunnyside Daycare, Andy's room, Bonnie's tea party – and see how many nuances, jokes, and visual references you didn't catch in the theater. How often in life do you get the chance for a do over?
