On Disney's Eastern Caribbean route, Saint Thomas is an island in the Caribbean Sea and with the islands of Saint John and Saint Croix, a county and constituent district of the United States Virgin Islands (USVI), an unincorporated territory of the United States. Located on the island is the territorial capital and port of Charlotte Amalie. As of the 2000 census, the population of Saint Thomas was 51,181 about 47% of the US Virgin Island total. The district has a land area of 31.24 square miles. This tropical paradise averages 72 - 90 degrees F year round.
Since Saint Thomas is US owned, the dollar is the currency and English is the main language. I was also interested to find that some cell phone plans cover this island without roaming charges!
There are endless things to do on Saint Thomas. The sea is very clear and it is easy to view ocean life around the islands. This is the best shopping stop on this route with great deals on diamonds and lace. It is very picturesque walking along the streets and the beaches are incredible.
National Geographic Magazine has named Magens Bay one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world because of its beautiful heart shape and white sandy beach. Magens Bay beach is also St. Thomas most popular beach for locals and tourist. Magens Bay has restaurant, bars, water sports, and equipment rentals.
Cozy, gorgeous, kid-friendly Coki Beach adjoins Coral World Ocean Park and offers hair braiders, a sensational dollar-a-minute massage for mom, dad, or the cranky teen, and opportunities to snorkel, kayak, parasail, and "snuba" (deep-down snorkeling, no experience necessary). Althea of Ocean Front Rentals takes care of cranky parents by offering discounts to families on renting chairs and snorkel gear. She also has lockers and a better-than-nothing bathroom/shower stand if the government-owned version is closed. Topping it off -- frozen drinks will gladly be brought to your chair. Inhale the view and enjoy!
